Home Infusion Therapy Basics

What is Home Infusion Therapy?

Home infusion therapy allows you to receive treatment in the comfort and safety of your own home. The medication can be self-administered by the patient, family member, and/or caregiver. Our facility will provide you with your medication along with any supplies needed.

Why are infusions given?

Many medications are more effective when they are infused because they are delivered right into the bloodstream.

How Can Infusions Be Given?

To infuse medication at home, you must have either a PICC line, Midline, Tunneled Central line, or Port a Cath. The following access devices allow medication to be administered into vein.

We provide:

  • Normal Saline Flushes
  • Heprin Flushes
  • Medication
  • Alcohol Prep Pads
  • Disinfectant Caps
  • Home Infusion Instructions/Resource Huide
  • 24-hour Nurse Access

*All infusion supplies dependent on insurance will be provided by our office.

How long does an infusion take?

This will depend on the type of medication, dosage and device used to administer medication. It can take as little as a few minutes or as long as several hours.

Will I have to operate equipment?

You may need to use equipment for certain treatments. Your nurse will give you easy-to-follow directions and make sure you are comfortable with what you need to do.
